Our Story

The tale of how Winterwoods Homes came to be.

The Winterwoods story dates back to 1975. At that time, Jeffery W. Caudill, Winterwoods owner and president, spent his college days as a ski instructor at the newly developed Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. During that time, Caudill began to dream about one day returning to the area to design

“I wanted to be able to walk back in 10 or 20 years and see something tangible,” says Caudill. “And what’s more tangible than a luxury, rustic, log and timber frame home?”

Caudill’s return to “his mountains” came 30 years later and, in 2007, his dream was realized – literally. Caudill had experienced a dream, a vision if you will, while still living in his log home on a 23 acre snow covered farm in Bucks County, PA.

“When I came home to Wintergreen, the image from that dream, that vision, was staring right at me,” Caudill said. He vividly remembers the January 2005 winter scene that solidified his goals, his creative process, his company name and his now internationally recognized company logo and trademark. Standing next to a Wintergreen creek, snow covered stones, amongst winter woods, Caudill snapped a photo seen below that inspired the name “Winterwoods”.

Caudill started with seven original sketches based on what he would have wanted in his dream homes at various stages of his own life. Eventually, he created 18 original designs – all of which were a culmination of Caudill sitting down with a sketchbook and drawing his heart out. The designs are now architecturally sound, artistically rendered and hanging on the walls of his office.

Today, Caudill works alongside a team of talented architects and designers to create practical, yet elegant spaces for living, raising families and entertaining.
